Enjoy the charms of the coast of Opatija while walking along the famous Franz Joseph walking trail known as the Lungomare. A dreamy, 12-kilometre long promenade is an excellent nordic walking spot. Fresh and healthy air, enriched with aromatic Mediterranean herbs, a stunning view of the sea and the Art Deco villas built along it.
Along with a great number of sports and activities such as parasailing, kite surfing, stand up paddling, beach volleyball, jet skiing, and boat rental, Opatija’s beautiful beaches offer two prime locations for windsurfing.
In the immediate vicinity of Opatija, the small fishing village of Volosko and the nearby Preluk bay are brimming with multicoloured sails of windsurfers that visit from all over the world. Tramontana winds that blow here each morning make it an ideal location for lovers of this fun, adrenaline-filled activity.
The second spot is Mošćenička Draga, where a windsurfing centre Windiana Jones holds surfing courses and rents equipment. If you’d prefer exploring the underwater world of Kvarner, here you will also find a diving centre organizing night diving trips, diving cruises and courses for all skill levels.
Hiking and active vacation lovers will enjoy visiting Učka nature park, with its many trails and a spectacular view from the Vojak mountaintop. Daring and adventurous can find a great opportunity for some difficult mountain biking. A more leisurely ride can be had April, during the Asparagus Trail cycling event, where a hearty feast awaits the participants at the trail’s end.
